funny to me

i get a good chunk of unintentional funny emails on a regular basis. i am in touch with people more by email than any other form of communication.

email #1 - from me to friend
background: she and i went to trader joe's (my first time) over the weekend. i got an all-in-one all natural castille soap that can be used as shampoo/shower gel/floor cleaner/fruit wash etc.

Beau's in my shower last night and he yells out ' yay babe! look at this. you got the good stuff!' in reference to the soap. i ran in and said dont u dare. that's my shampoo. 'but babe, i can use it for...'. no, then i'll never see it again, that's my shampoo, it shall be used in my bathroom as shampoo. my bf is a product junkie. gotta keep him under control.

email #2 - her response
So I bought a little toothbrush for traveling and knocked it in the toilet today. I screamed. The walls are thin in the bathroom and typically at 7am, weekends or weekdays, I hear some guy hacking from some bathroom somewhere (haven't heard him in a while. Hope he's alright...gross as it is). Wonder what they thought....

garment #3

i finished the vest i started not too long ago. it's almost good enough to wear. too bad i dont really like vests. i just made it because i needed a 'quick win' after the laborious task of sewing/ripping the seams/sewing again of the print dress. garment #2 is the temporarily abandoned project: tunic.

cleaning up

i've been meaning to get rid of my old loves mementos box but it's too much trouble to even find it. it's gotta be on aop shelf in one of the closets somewhere...i've been on a mission for the past year to get rid of things i dont need or want.

what else don't i want? the countless pairs of socks i have. why do i have so many? i think everyone thinks they need to buy socks every so often cuz hey socks, you need them, right? but what if you never throw them out (because you dont) and the machine doesnt really eat them. i have too many socks and too many notes that say i love you from people that i really could care less about. so out with the socks and out with the old love letters i say.

small victories

This may be a non-event to you but I like to celebrate the small victories in life. I completed an entire Sudoku (Level 2) puzzle on the way to work today – read one way. I was a little late to catch on to the craze, much like I am with TV’s, movies, books, etc. Those freaking puzzles usually last me a round-trip commute to work/home daily, and I don’t even finish them always, or have to stop short because my square suddently has two 7’s - game over.

I’ve unsuccessfully tried to sign up for adult swimming lessons with my friends from sewing class. I didn’t think it’d be such a project to find a group class after work but we toil on. Our backup is a former lifeguard we found on craigslist with an impressive resume. Or maybe the resume isn’t impressive and is standard for someone that teaches group swimming classes. But to a non-floater like me, I thought the lady sounded amazing.

Other project to be completed this year: tennis lessons. I’m sure it’ll be fun, though it wasn’t my idea. I’m just going along for the $100 5 lesson ride. I was looking at my budget once and decided I don’t spend enough on Fun. So that’s my new thing – less on clothing (not counting fabric!) and more on Fun.

Note to self: be more careful the next time you google (or BING!) “adult swimming lessons” at work

my weekend project

i did this over the weekend. mostly while watching this 'new' show on hulu. and by new show i mean a show that's aired for more than 2 seasons and ive never heard of - dead like me.

mine doesnt look as nice as the one i saw here, but hey, not bad.

so the show is about an 18 yr old girl who dies and becomes a grim reaper. oddly enough, a comedy. it's excellent show for me to listen to as i do other things. the dialogue is good and i dont need to look up much to know what's going on. oh, and it's original. i find it very hard to watch tv (and by tv, i mean tv shows on my laptop).

ocean parkway - take 2

for the second weekend in a row, i spent sunday afternoon biking to coney island via ocean parkway ( 5miles one way baby!). well, kinda...

last week, i went with Beau and it was so traumatic that i think it's going to take a lot for me to go biking with him ever again. he has zero patience when it comes to biking with a beginner. i'm not used to traffic ( which i had to bike through in order to get to the bike path), and somehow i dont think yelling and telling me i'm going to be hit by a car if i dont do this or that right is motivating or comforting.

take two: this week with my cousin. much better. she asked that i meet her at the bike path, which forced me to bike by myself through streets. i was late meeting her because i actually waited at stop lights at the beginning of my journey. (by the way : i was wearing a helmet! safety first!). but after getting comfortable with random opening car doors, illegal u-turns and keeping an eye for cars pulling out with no notice, i managed to run through lights when i saw pedestrians jaywalking. the most unfortunate part of the trip was getting a flat tire at Avenue Y. we were so close to getting to Coney Island! I had to walk my bike the rest of the way. We sat on a bench at the boardwalk, ate fruits and animal crackers and listened to music.

other things accomplished this weekend :
  • cleaned and declogged tub
  • scrubbed inside of oven
  • bought fabric for my next projects (vest, shorts, and cargo pants)

things not done :
  • study for the gmat (when's the last time i mentioned this? yep, that bad)
  • cook for myself ( i will be having frozen pizza for lunch tomorrow)
  • lift my weights

i finished!

things i learned:

  • "easy" patterns aren't always easy
  • never again alter a pattern, i am only a beginner
  • pin twice, stitch once
  • invisible zippers should not be visible when wearing the garment
