i'm stuck
when you read an article entitled "5 signs your job is burning you out," shouldn't the title really say "5 more signs that your job is burning you out"?do you remember when i first raved about the new gig? i feel like i shouldn't be complaining for various reasons like
- i have a job. have i not been watching the news? it is ugly out there
- my former job was worse, a lot worse (or was it?). so in reality, my job situation has improved
- i have a mortgage i can afford with the job that i have, which brings me to my next point
- i have a job. have i not been watching the news? it is ugly out there
- i can still wear skinny jeans to work
- i really sucked at selling myself when looking for a new job last year
So I'm staying put for now, because all things considered it's the smart thing to do.

all my fingers
There is no discrete way to do ken ken puzzles at your desk when you either a- have nothing to do, or b- have much you can do but are so unmotivated/bored at your job that you would rather do other things. so instead, i write this email ...to my blog.
I love Craigslist. I got a sewing machine for $30 and it was not too heavy to carry home on the bus inside my (somewhat large) tote.
I signed up for a Saturday sewing class at a community college but found out the day before the first session that it was cancelled due to low enrollment.
Yet today I am happy to report that I have all of my fingers.
I finally turned on my *new* sewing machine last night and it it worked. I stitched a line in an old t-shirt, got the needle stuck, then got it unstuck. So yeah, I will need a little guidance. One of my friends is gracious enough to let me borrow her mom for a few hours this weekend.
Learning to sew has been on my list of things to do for a long time. So long that I even forgot about it and I recently found an old to-do list that had scribbles on it about learning to "sow."

the bathroom
i hate working with women because they use the same bathroom as me. i especially hate it when my boss is a woman because unless i have a high capacity bladder it will mean that at one point or another we will both be in the bathroom at the same time and this creates all kinds of awkwardness
- what if you were in the bathroom long enough to leave a smell. you leave the stall to wash your hands and there's your boss. you make sure to take extra long time washing your hands because now you feel like you're being watched, and wait, did you ... is that smell coming from ? yes, take extra time to wash your hands.
- small talk. it's the bathroom, not a conference room or a kitchen table. i dont want to start catching up with your as i'm stepping into the stall. do i have to continue the convo from the stall? this is okay with close friends, possibly. this is not okay when the person speaking is your manager.

who's IT?
my immunity lasted but for so long. even though the company president came to our office last week and said no more layoffs are planned, guess what? dont believe it. seriously, do you think they would tell us?
i sent out my current job description in bullets to a bunch of folks tonight (well, this morning at 1am ) so i can revise it before adding it to my outdated resume (soon to be dated again).
my job does not know how to fire people. i have got to tell you how it all went down last month - it was traumatic, i couldnt even write about it at the time. seriously, HR? what the hell. you are HR, you should know how to handle Humans.

recession pick-me-up
So what's it going to take for women to have earning power in the U.S.? A recession! That's right, who cares about equality otherwise. (According to the NYT, a higher proportion of women work in "recession-free" industries such as healthcare and education [i just remembered the "such as" vs. "like" rule from my GMAT book - I haven't opened those books in way too long).
So what, did you think I'd start writing about how I haven't written in months? Nope, no apology here (2009 is going to be a no-apologies year). I haven't felt like it. Well, I lie I did feel like it, but I think I was too unrealistic with what the quality and length that the writings should have had. So instead of writing paragraphs of well thought out ideas, I'm just going to rant and go on tangents - sticking to what I do best.
