Guess who's tried to contact me twice last week? The Great Pretender. I should've started a "how long can he live without me" count. Did he forget that we spoke about his girlfriend a few weeks ago? He sent me a message online. Funny, I had blocked his profile so he coudn't message me, and I did this after having met up with him over Thanksgiving. But it turns out he had a SECOND profile, he's had it all along, I didn't know about it so I couldn't block it.
It'll be two weeks before he notices that I didn't accept his friend invite, and that he can no longer see my profile even. That's when he will call. This will also happen at the same time that we're both home for Christmas. He knows that I'll be going home for Christmas, hence he will call.
I should've told him that I really have no need to ever speak to him again. But I didn't cuz at the moment I didn't know how to say it nicely. I also am not as cold as I'd like or seem to be.
His arrogance is disturbing. I know I hurt him, he (should) know(s) he hurt me. You would think that after nearly 3 years, he could be grown about the situation, but instead everything he says or does says one thing: How can you live without me? The answer is easy: easily. It seems I should be the one asking him that. He's not doing well, and I know this seems crazy to anyone that sees him and "knows" him, but I know him. I think he forgot how much I can read into his actions. He pretended to be doing well, and I in turn pretended to believe him.
The best thing I did when we hit our "bump" in the road in our relationship was take a summer job cross country. In the 3 months I spent that I didn't live with him, I remember thinking one day, wow, how great it is to not argue. Gotta admit, it was a bit lonely, but I was at peace with myself.
I thought about him again before he tried to contact me. I was purging my closet and I found a lot of old pics of us as a couple. I went through them and remembered some memories I had forgotten. I'm in the process of throwing them away. For one, damn were we a photogenic couple! Two, I looked so happy in them. Ignorance was bliss.
New thought:
Been really homesick lately, which is so odd because I had gotten so used to never being home. I guess different things matter now.

Rollerblades @ Night
I just got back from rollerblading around the marina at night. In waiting for my friend to arrive at the restaurant, I realized how much I need to move. Not move out my current city necessarily (though I wouldn't mind) but to move back into a city environment.
I've been very aware of this but there was something about sitting in the car tonight. I looked onto the water and seeing city lights reflect in it really made me miss being home.

Thanks: akaKev
I first met akaKev about 5 years ago. during one of first conversations i called him something like "stupid and lazy", he then called me "racist against black people". I remember thinking that right then and there that he was out of his damn mind: What black man tells a black woman that she's racist... towards black people? Anyway, this was the beginning of a beautiful friendship! He was asking to get the homework assignment for a class we were both in and I mistook him for wanting to copy the entire assignment off of me. We were in a challenging programming class and I seriously took offense to someone who I barely knew to ask for the solutions
so bluntly.
All his crazy stories sounded like a bunch of lies, they were just too outrageous but they were no doubt entertaining so I kept speaking with him. We disagreed/argued a lot but we still socialized and at one point started working on our class assignments
together. Through our arguments and late night study sessions we got to know each other and appreciate our love-hate, mostly hate relationship. I realized he appeared as a prick to many people on campus, but beyond that he was a genuinely good person, ha.
Definitely a character I'll write about more about at a later time.
I remember he came to visit me when I lived out of state one summer. He was supposed to stay for a weekendor 2 days and wound up staying for 2 weeks. Simply because he didn't want to leave. This was when he started having feelings for me that ran deeper than friendship. That was an interesting patch to get over and I'm glad we did cuz he makes a helluva friend but from what I've seen, he's a crap boyfriend.

Writings in my head
The radio spoke to me today, here's what it said:
Anna Nalick, 2 A.M.
Thoughts rushing in my head cause about 80% of my insomnia. When I heard this song play on the radio I thought of the nights I stay awake with my thoughts and how they go away when I write them down. Hence my sudden urge to post constantly.
Once again, I have failed to get myself to bed at a decent time. I will drink another Pepsi at work tomorrow for a caffeine boost, and this will give me a stomach ache.
2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me,
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to

Lavender and I have grown apart at times but we always find our way back. We've been friends for close to ten years! I had to add the exclamation because I just did the math in my head, I didn't think it had been that long. That must mean Sojourness and I have been friends for almost that long too. Wow. My girls.
Lavender's partly responsible for my navel piercing (we were both supposed to do it but she chickened out last minute, we were 16). We managed to watch American Pie at a movie theater despite being under 17 and unaccompanied by adults. I can't possibly remember all we talked about on the phone but I remember my ability to stay on the phone with her for hours. This despite talking to her all day between classes (and sometimes during). Gosh! I remember going to her house and getting on this thing called the Internet, lol. Oh and the first joys of the Internet of course were pornography! LOL. Innocently enough, we would not have thought to use it that way, but since that's all we heard was available online, Lavender and I decided to check it out. How fondly I remember when she pointed out to me that "come" was not misspelled on the website we were on.
While on topic of early Internet experiences, Sojourness was who went to the library with me and helped me sign up for my first email account. It was a big deal back then!(At least to me it was).I thought of what my_email_address@hotmail would be for days. And I actually remember consulting Lavender (on the phone, of course).
The best part of having friends for this long is the number of inside jokes you accumulate. Especially my favorite is when you forget some of them but when you get together one of you remembers and you get to relive those good memories together.
Okay, akaKevin is calling me, blogging to be continued (I don't believe in "Save as Draft).

Series: Thanks
I've been meaning to go into detail as to who I am thankful for. It's a list of about 5 people, and this has been narrowed down. I have more than five friends! But there are a few that stand out because I can call on them for any/everything. So in no particular order, I'll start with Lavender.
Her favorite color is purple, but that sounds too rough to describe her, so Lavender she shall be...
Okay, so it's late and I'm not going to finish this tonight, let me list out who I'll be covering in my series of Thanks.
Sojourness- this was a name I would've given myself had I had her vocabulary. Instead I am Nomad. I do not wander for food, but I do relocate due to my job.
Twin- she's the newest addition to my inner heart of friends. Definitely one of those people that make you wonder if you were separated at birth.
akaKevin- the friendship I've had to defend the most. We actually had a bad falling out that lasted close to a year. Many don't understand why we're friends, or why we're not more than friends. I could write my second book on this topic alone. (We all know the first book is on everything else- from failed relationships, crazy travel and living on my own).
Interestingly enough, I think I'm done with my list. I thought I would name more people than I have but I guess I'll start with the most intimate group and then work my way out.

Bank online: Pain in the (_|_)
I had to call and complain to my credit card co. two nights ago because their website wouldn't let me pay my bill in full!
It was my first time using my bank acct so there was a limit on how much I could pay. I called them and said, how can I pay the rest, I don't want to be charged interest on my purchases now because I will if I carry a balance (aka, don't pay my bill in full).
Their response: you can pay by phone for $14.95. I was like what!?
So then the guy on the phone calculated how much interest would build up if I mailed a check in, I would only pay 11 bucks in interest he said. I was like excuse me, I don't want to pay by check, I don't want to be charged for paying by phone, I want to pay in full now, and don't you dare charge me 11 dollars. So he was like, Im going to make a note of this case on your file, I'll note that you tried to pay in full but we wouldn't let you so we'll waive the fee.

Trust
About a month ago I was giving Trust a lot of thought. Ironically, this happened just before someone who was close betrayed my trust. For reasons I cannot explain or determine, whether biological or environmental, I don't consider myself to have an inclination to trust people easily. So I was having mini conversations with myself (because this is very much completely normal) about the different ways that one gains another's trust.
1. Meet someone and something about the person makes trusting easy. This is the easy one, you trust your gut. Though sometimes your gut can be wrong and then you can't even trust your gut.
2. Meet someone and the person gains your trust. They tell you things private to them, and you think to do the same...eventually. Or just the passage of time makes them seem safe.
3. You take a chance. Why? Just because. Or because not trusting anybody is not desirable. Sometimes in taking a chance, whether you choose to consciously believe it or not, you set up a test for the other. You tell them semi-private and then wait to see what happens. If there is no adverse reaction, then you do it again, lol (I'm laughing at my own wording, you see, this is how the conversations in my head start off).
All I've mentioned pertains to trusting someone the first time around. What needs to happen to regain someone's trust after you've done something to compromise it, I'm not so sure about. Any betrayal of trust hurts, but the other day I was trying to rationalize which hurts more. But pain is pain is pain, right? I don't know. I think if I had to rate which hurts more I'd place #2 first, because with 1 and 3, you're aware that you could be wrong- your gut or taking a chance. With #2, once you've built something, to see it come down hurts.

A Date with my Ex
This is an interesting story. So interesting that it's not going to have a definite begining.Let me begin by saying that I met up with my ex, for the sake of the story I shall call him the Great Pretender. I was who initiated the encounter, though he is who started contacting me by phone this year after almost 3 years of non-contact.
Why did I want to meet up with him? Curiosity and disbelief. Curiosity because what would make The Great Pretender call me now? Could he possibly believe that after our catostrophic breakup and its aftermath we could be friends? Or that we could give Us a second chance? Was I totally wrong in thinking that he had ulterior motives? He said he had a girlfriend, that should have affected what I thought of the situation, but it didn't. This brings me to the topic of my next post is going to be about: trust. I trusted and loved the Great Pretender a lot. But that was then. I know better now, a lot better.
He must have thought I was having a great time because I could not stop laughing/smiling. We ended up having a late lunch at a restaurant we had been to once before, 3 years ago, when we were a couple. Everything that was said and happened was so ridiculous that I could not stop laughing ...at him. His comments were inappropriate and embarrasing considering that he has a girlfriend, and thinks that I have a boyfriend. I guess it was obvious to everyone except for me (until now) that he indeed just wants to keep me around for a "just in case".He admitted to me that despite claiming to love his girlfriend he is not sure he wants to marry her. Funny I thought, because I remember when he used to tell people that he wanted to marry me. HA! Actually I just remembered that he asked me about that! He asked what I would have said if he proposed to me.
Oh my gosh. He is so arrogant. It was kind of embarrassing to sit across from him and remember all that went on between us. But at the same time, I sat there with the satisfaction of knowing something he doesn't know. There was a time when his little tricks would have worked on me. He was trying to charm me, looked at me smiled, and said that I was cute. I just raised my eyebrow at him. For a while after we broke up, I was afraid that I had not gotten over him despite being aware of all the foul things that he did during and after our relationship. But after our restaurant date, I felt sorry for his girlfriend. I was in her shoes three years ago and came to my senses. She's been with him for two years, and I know she has no idea that he's met up with me and I know (because he admitted) that he cannot talk on the phone with me if she's in the room. Good riddance! I know he will call me in a few weeks to say "Hope all is well" and to see how I am doing (and ask if I am still with my boyfriend). I am done picking up the phone, for real this time. I'm even putting this in writing! So with this said, I not only close this chapter of my life, but I'm sealing it and throwing it into a well like in that movie, the Ring. lol.

1 Corinthians 13
Though I do not consider myself "religious", I read this last week and it made me feel a lot better and helped me make a (I think) good decision. The parts in bold stood out for me more than the rest, though the entire passage is very powerful. I can't believe I just now read this passage in its entirety.
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. So here I am, currently working on not keeping records of wrongs and putting my pride, anger and childish ways aside. Because I really do know better. With that said, I'm going to be busy.
If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.
Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

9 months and one day
I seriously need to go home... I can't believe HE went home before I did, what a punk. I think very little of him at this point, don't know if that will change. And that's sad considering that I already said I'd like to be friends one day and that I'd forgive him. This maybe would have been a lot easier had I done something wrong, but I didn't, and he even said this.
I got an email from someone today who I hadn't spoken to in a while. I told him what happened, and though his advice was very simple and brief I felt so much better to hear him (or read ) say it. I've got really great friends, I need to move back home where I can be surrounded by them constantly. It puts fools in my life (or formerly part of my life) into perspective as just that: fools.

9 months
It's been almost nine months since the last time I wrote. I'm going to ramble because it's 116am and I should've been in bed about 4 hours ago when I first started feeling drowsy. I couldn't bring myself to go to bed so early despite being so tired, I like my nights; I'm not a morning person, at all.
A lot has gone on in my life this year, and now that it's stopped raining and it's just me and my thoughts again, I wonder how much I've changed or how much things have changed me. I feel stronger, but only sometimes. The rest of the times I feel more vulnerable and more aware of things I wish I wasn't aware of. I wish I could be naive again. Maybe I shouldn't even be writing or trying to analyze things at this present moment. In the past week alone, a lot has gone on to make me question stuff, for lack of a better word. Disappointment is something I've grown really tired of.

Rumpelstiltskin
You may have noticed some hostility at the times I mention my job in posts. I kindly sometimes refer to it as the slaveship, among some other not so kind things. I've gotta spill my guts on this some more at a later time when I have more energy. In very few words, I feel like I'm being asked to spin gold out of hay. Other times, I feel like I'm being sent on a scavenger hunt with a broken compass on a non-existent trail.
All in all, don't tell me to quit my job. It pays ALL my bills, and although money can't buy happiness, it sure does buy the peace of mind of knowing you don't have to ask anyone for a money or a place to stay.

Mystery Cupid Unveiled
I found out who was the person behind the mystery desserts at the office. He was one of my hunches, but I can't say I was completely right because when I asked if it was him he responded with "I don't even like candy. What are you talking about?", and I believed him.
On Valentine's Day all the female IT slaves, um, I mean workers, also had surprised candy at their cubes. Mystery Cupid said he did this just to stir up some controversy. He actually called it by some other word, which I can't recall, and dated himself in doing so. I think it was 'scuttle butt'? Strange Americanism, I know. Mystery Cupid took me out as a farewell gesture, and that was when he confessed.
We also had the most interesting and so not work appropriate conversation about infidelity and relationships. We definitely were the table to eavesdrop at the restaurant. Who would've ever thought he and I would have so much to talk about. At first glance, he's a middle aged white male , somewhat from Suburbia. And here I was, bathing in all my "urbanness" , my youth/naivety and my Caribbean and West African ancestry as he told me about the time he looked into his lover's eyes in the middle of lovemaking and said "I love you".

Mystery Cupid
I went to work unusually early for me to the office the other day (a.k.a. regular hours for those who don't mind haven't sold their souls yet). Anyway, this is not what's exciting. It seemed there were traces of dessert left by a mystery cupid at the office.
Overhead throughout the day:
cube #47-Did you bring in the cake and candy?
cube #21 I didn't, did you? It was here when I got in this morning.
cube #59- No one's 'fessing up. It wasn't me, I got in here after you all did.
When I got to my desk I saw that someone had also left a heart-shaped box of chocolate and a little bag with chocolate candies on my desk, by my mouse. I immediately thought it was from my boss since she's known for her sweet tooth and for getting into the office before the receptionist even leaves her house. (By the way, if you've read up to now, and not found one thing I've written funny, even remotely, please stop reading, NOW, I mean it).
As the day progressed, I got around to asking my boss if she was who left candies at everyone's desk. "What do you mean at everyone's desk? There was only candy left at the printer. Did someone leave you candy that they didn't leave anyone else".
At this point of the convo, if I thought her the person to wink at someone, this would've been that moment. Just picture it:Did someone leave you candy that they didn't leave anyone else? *wink*wink* and then an "oooh".
I unsuccessfully tried to find out who my cupid was. I have 3 hunches but I could be so very very wrong. And imagine my embarrassment if I were to accuse the wrong individual of furtively bringing me valentine's candy. Sadly, this was the only eventful occurrence at work last week.
Overhead throughout the day:
cube #47-Did you bring in the cake and candy?
cube #21 I didn't, did you? It was here when I got in this morning.
